Same letters, different order

Classic pairs: LISTEN / SILENT, ENGLISH / SHINGLE, EVIL / VILE. The letters spell the same multiset; only order changes.

Suffix patterns

  • -TION / -ATION rearrangements in longer puzzles
  • -ING added to base words (REACT → REACTING)
  • Plural S shifting to another letter in anagram rounds

Consonant clusters

STR-, SPR-, and -TCH groups often stay together in partial anagrams. If your rack has S, T, R, test words ending in -ART or -STAR first.

Technique: sort your letters

Alphabetising letters (AELP → AELP) reveals matches instantly. Our anagram solver does this automatically—enter letters and compare signatures.

Famous puzzle pairs to remember

  • REACTS → CARETS, SCARE, TRACE
  • TEACHER → CHEATER (informal), REACT + H
  • DORMITORY → DIRTY ROOM (phrase anagram)
